Practical Ministry is an integral part of the theological and ministerial training at Navin Doman Theological College (NDTC). The purpose of this program is to provide students with opportunities to apply the biblical, theological, and pastoral knowledge they acquire in the classroom to real-life ministry situations. Through this practical experience, students are prepared to become effective pastors, missionaries, teachers, and Christian leaders who are equipped to serve the Church with competence, compassion, and integrity.
As part of this program, every Sunday, NDTC students are assigned to various congregations (parishes) in and around the N.W.G.E.L. Church. Under the guidance of local pastors and church leaders, they actively participate in worship services and assist in different areas of church ministry. Their responsibilities include leading worship services, reading Scripture, offering congregational prayers, preaching sermons, teaching Sunday School, conducting youth fellowship meetings, participating in praise and worship, and assisting pastors in various pastoral and congregational ministries.
The Practical Ministry program is designed not only to develop students' preaching and teaching abilities but also to expose them to the daily life and ministry of the local church. Students have the opportunity to interact with church members, visit families, pray for individuals, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and pastoral needs of the congregation. This hands-on experience enables them to develop a deeper understanding of Christian ministry and strengthens their commitment to serving God's people with love and humility.
Through regular participation in church ministries, students cultivate essential qualities such as spiritual maturity, leadership, effective communication, biblical preaching, pastoral care, teamwork, responsibility, discipline, time management, and servant leadership. They also gain valuable experience in ministering to people of different age groups, backgrounds, and life situations, helping them become well-rounded and compassionate Christian ministers.
The Practical Ministry program also strengthens the partnership between NDTC and the N.W.G.E.L. Church, enabling students to learn directly from experienced pastors while contributing meaningfully to the spiritual growth and ministry of local congregations. This collaboration benefits both the students and the churches, fostering mutual encouragement and effective ministry.
Thus, Practical Ministry is more than a training requirement; it is a vital component of NDTC's holistic ministerial formation. By faithfully serving in local congregations every Sunday, students develop the knowledge, character, and practical skills necessary for lifelong Christian ministry. Through their worship leadership, preaching, teaching, and pastoral service, they seek to glorify God, strengthen the Church, and faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to His people.
